The webinar hosted by Mike Lee, CEO, New Objective, Amanda Berg, Vice President, New Objective, and Emily Ehrenfeld, President, New Objective, featured Justyna Zakaria at Northwestern University who shared her recent research on “Normalized human sAPPβ clearance rates are slower in the setting of Alzheimer’s disease than in healthy aging, but inter-subject variability is marked.”
Justyna shared the importance of mass spectrometry and nanobore chromatography for the quantitative analysis of human sAPPβ and Aβ in CSF samples. The increased production and/or decreased clearance of amyloid-beta (Aβ) leads to higher order of amyloid structures that initiate a sequence of events that can result in Alzheimer’s disease.
Scientists already know that the pathological changes to the brain occur 10-15 years prior to the clinical onset of Alzheimer’s. We need biomarkers showing that these changes are happening and allow physicians to start treatment prior to the cognitive decline.
Justyna and her team developed a robust, reproducible and precise analytical method based on PicoChip columns.
