New Objective Webinar Series Featuring PicoChip®: Scalable Proteomics Solutions for Core Laboratories

October 26, 2023 – Littleton, MA (USA) New Objective hosted a webinar event on Wednesday September 20th that brought together the New Objective core laboratory community to connect, learn, and discuss the impact that the heated PicoChip® is having within a commercial environment at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and the value and performance it offers to core labs. The webinar hosted by Mike Lee, CEO, New Objective, and Amanda Berg, Vice President, New Objective, featured the heated PicoChip column workflow through the experience of Robert Salzler who shared recent work and ongoing studies at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals that rely on the PicoChip.

Robert shared the importance of mass spectrometry and the PicoChip as tools in the laboratories at Regeneron to study the proteome and immunopeptidomics – as they look beyond the known proteome to discover tumor-specific antigens. Their work broadens the repertoire of their analysis and understanding of the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) peptide, offering effective combination immunotherapies.

We analyze hundreds of samples each month and need a robust platform. Our mass specs run with a heated PicoChip 24/7 for 4-6 weeks and provide robust data – we know this because data integrity is checked before each sample.” – Robert Salzler, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

Robert stated that mass spectrometry is the tool-of-choice to examine the physical presence of HLA associated peptides on normal cells. However, he emphasized, it can become the bottleneck without a scalable robust platform. He shared the key features which make the PicoChip column the platform of choice for their Thermo mass spectrometers:

  • Easy to use
  • Great performance – “the PicoChip checks all boxes”
    • Peak shape
    • Sensitivity
    • Lifetime
  • Throughput
  • 24/7 operation
    • “We never worry”
    • Unattended – keeps performing
    •  4-6 weeks lifetime
    • ….”so I can do the things I need to do.”

Robert highlighted his experience with the PicoChip and its place in the laboratories at Regeneron as a long-term solution as he went on to state “the PicoChip is very successful on the Thermo based instruments, and we plan to keep using them. We have 100s of samples per month and need a robust platform to make this work.”
